A good internship program is essential for the success of engineering firms. Not only does the intern gain valuable experience, the firm attracts a potential pool of young talent; a pipeline of new employees to build a robust future for the company.
The Deep Dig Rotational Internship is no different. After our first year of rotations several interns already have proven themselves and have an eye on their future with GES.

When Josh first joined our internship program a year ago he new he wanted to get into math, science or something STEM related, and he wanted to create things to make life better for people. After a year in our rotation, Josh still wants to create something meaningful, that he and others can see and touch. But now he wants to take part in a collaborative effort and be involved in the field work, laboratory testing and the engineering.

Jamison didn’t know a lot about engineering when he joined us. He only new he wanted to help protect the environment. Currently he is working in the field and our laboratory, getting his hands dirty as he learns about engineering and construction. He had no idea one field, geotechnical engineering, could offer so much variety of work or could be so complicated.

Melissa has been with us the longest. She came into our program knowing she wanted to do something for the environment, but she didn’t know if it would be in air, water or soil. Now she loves to get her hands dirty as she investigates soils and hopes to stay with the company after graduation as part of our environmental program.

This year’s class looks to be equally promising. Adilene, Garrett and Montserrat are all preparing for their last years at UNLV. They started their engineering education thinking they wanted to be civil engineers, but found us at a career fair and decided to keep an open mind. They are already integrating into our company culture and learning at break neck speed.
